Hire A Corporate Comedian
Brian Longwell – Hire A Corporate Comedian
There are plenty of good reasons to hire a comedian – they are great for fundraisers, special events, corporate/business events, or you just want to try it in your bar/restaurant as entertainment.
There are many ways to go about it. If it’s a one time only event, probably the best thing would be to visit some local comedy shows and see for yourself who you’d like to have. Friday and Saturday nights tend to have only 3 or 4 comedians on the shows – the standard opener, feature act, headliner, and maybe a host. Other nights may have more comedians doing less time on what are called “showcase” shows. These can be a good way to see more comedians, but some may have less experience and/or less material to draw on. Usually there are a number of experienced comedians working out new jokes or just want to get out and do a short set.
If you approach a comedian at a club, they will happily give you their contact info. Some clubs require that comedians use the club as a booking agent if they are hired as a result of being seen at the club.
Another approach is to search for comedians online and look at samples of their acts. Virtually all comedians have a website with one or more youtube videos.
If you want to be less involved, you can use a booking agent. Beware of going down this path – most booking agents are OK, but there are some that try get a lot of money out of you with only a fraction going to the comedian(s). If you make contact with some comedians in your area, they will tell you who they think good agents are – though this can often be based on simply who employs them.
I split my time between Boston and San Francisco, so events outside of those areas will involve travel expenses.
“Thanks for your excellent presentation in San Francisco. After successfully selling the group the serious-motivational-speaker persona, you then slayed them.”RGA Technology Partners
“You killed! What a fantastic presentation, …HUGE points, Brian. Thank you, again, so much”Rockingham Community Action
“Thanks so much for your hilarious presentation last week at the Harvard Club. As you could tell, the crowd enjoyed it very much. I got lots of good feedback. It was a great ending to a long day.”ING Investments
“What the world needs more of are non-motivational speakers. Blokes in suits who tell you how to do it wrong every time, or how to cock up properly. Brian Longwell’s your chap with his primitive, hand drawn transparencies, and one-man brainstorming sessions.”The List
