Corporate Comedian For Hire
Brian Longwell – Corporate Comedian For Hire
One of the unfortunate things about comedians is that there isn’t much in the way of defined genres associated to help audiences decide what kind would appeal to them. In music, there is a vast array of terms that can be applied. Rock, alt-rock, classic rock, hard rock, soft rock, etc, etc.
But with comedians, the most important parameter is how funny they are. And if a comedian is of a genre you don’t like – even though you don’t know what the right word would be – that comedian “isn’t funny” in your opinion, just like you might say that contemporary country music “isn’t good”.
One specific category, but not completely defining, is that of clean comedians. This might be like musicians that, well… I can’t come up with a good analogy right now. Being a clean comedian used to be a much more important goal because that’s the only way you could get a spot on the late night shows. It’s not as important now, but it’s still a challenge to become a clean comedian because working the comedy shows in clubs can get tough in the late hours and the less intelligent audiences that a comedian can find themselves in front of. Mining the unclean material can save a comedian with tougher audiences, but to win them over with “clean” jokes takes some very good joke writing.
The advantage for clean comedians is that they aren’t limited to the comedy club scene. They can do corporate events, events with younger audience members and families. This can mean doing less of the “tough audience” gigs, but in the long run makes for a comedian relying more on writing skills rather than shock.
I split my time between Boston and San Francisco, so events outside of those areas will involve travel expenses.
“Thanks for your excellent presentation in San Francisco. After successfully selling the group the serious-motivational-speaker persona, you then slayed them.”RGA Technology Partners
“You killed! What a fantastic presentation, …HUGE points, Brian. Thank you, again, so much”Rockingham Community Action
“Thanks so much for your hilarious presentation last week at the Harvard Club. As you could tell, the crowd enjoyed it very much. I got lots of good feedback. It was a great ending to a long day.”ING Investments
“What the world needs more of are non-motivational speakers. Blokes in suits who tell you how to do it wrong every time, or how to cock up properly. Brian Longwell’s your chap with his primitive, hand drawn transparencies, and one-man brainstorming sessions.”The List
